Paupe Village Women and their Babies
PanAust’s Papua New Guinea Country Manager, Joel Hamago, recently attended the opening of Paupe Village Clinic’s new maternity ward.
Located near the Frieda River base camp in Papua New Guinea, the maternity ward provides a safe and supportive environment for expectant mothers from the East and West Sepik Region. Its opening is a result of an ongoing collaboration between PanAust subsidiary Frieda River Limited and Papua New Guinea’s Ambunti Drekikier and Pacific Island Ministries.
To get the ward up and running, Frieda River Limited contributed in-kind support equivalent to $AUD 15,200. This contribution covered the cost of transporting construction materials by road, followed by an 18-hour boat trip up the Sepik River, and casual labour hire to construct the eight-bed maternity clinic.
At the opening event Joel announced that PanAust had entered into an agreement with Ambunti District Health to accommodate visiting doctors and offer remote Sepik communities the chance to connect with a health professional.
